Dr BR Ambedkar University (BRAU) of Srikakulam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yunus Social Business Centre (SBC) of Dhaka of Bangladesh which was founded by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus.  

Srikakulam: Dr BR Ambedkar University (BRAU) of Srikakulam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yunus Social Business Centre (SBC) of Dhaka of Bangladesh which was founded by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus.

In the centenary conference of Indian Economic Association (IEA) held at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) in Guntur on Wednesday, BRAU Srikakulam Vice-Chancellor Prof Koona Ramji was present and signed the MoU with Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) in the presence of Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

With an aim to achieve zero per cent poverty and sustainable economic growth in rural areas through the university, they signed the MoU with the YSBC, explained BRAU Vice-Chancellor here on Thursday.

“Right now, bankers are unable to provide loans to the poor and they are only concentrating on business improvement than eradication of poverty. Rural banking, rural business activity, micro finance, micro credit, green technology, energy credit needs to be improved in rural areas in the country,” the Vice-Chancellor elaborated.

BRAU is the second university in the country which signed the MoU with YSBC, while Mumbai University is the first one. In all, 44 universities of various countries signed the MoU with YSBC so far to achieve economic growth in rural areas among the poor and to implement models of the YSBC.

“We will fix a schedule with the Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) soon and implement programmes with our students in a phased manner in rural areas,” BRAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Koona Ramji elaborated to The Hans India.
