Srikakulam: Fishermen staged a novel protest as part of their ongoing agitation demanding inclusion of the former in the ST list. They took out a rally from Potti Sriramulu Junction to the Collectorate here on Thursday by displaying dry fish, baskets made of wood by wearing fishermen caps made of palm leaves.

On the occasion, they raised slogans for their inclusion in ST list. Fishermen from Peddaganagallavanipeta, Chinnaganagallavanipeta, Pukkallapeta, Narasayyapeta, Khazipeta in Srikakulam rural mandal participated in the rally.

Their relay hunger fasts reached 18th day on Thursday. Peddaganagallavanipeta village sarpanch Ch Gurumurthy, MPTC Ch Kannayya led the agitation. Fishermen leaders M Palguna Raju, Ch Suryanarayana, M Sriramulu and others participated.

They submitted a memorandum to Additional Joint Collector P Rajanikantha Rao at the Collectorate. Later, Srikakulam TDP MLA G Laxmidevi paid a visit to the relay hunger strike camp at the Collectorate and assured to bring their problems to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
