Civic employees, Chandana Brothers staff clash

Eluru: Clash between the municipal corporation officials and Chandrana Brothers staff took place near municipal corporation office here on Thursday when the Chandana Brothers staff obstructed the duties of municipal employees.

According to municipal officials, Chandana Brothers building owner P Ranga Rao has to pay Rs 26 lakh towards property tax. Despite repeated reminders, he had failed to pay the tax. Following this, as per the prevailing rules, the municipal officials on Saturday went to Chandana Brothers office and warned them to pay tax, or else they warned of seizing the complex.

The Chandana Brothers staff told them that they are in the lease in the building and the officials should collect tax from the owner of the building.

The revenue officials of the municipality told them that collecting the tax is their right and as per the Act, the municipality had the right to collect the tax from the owner or the tenants of the complex.

With this, the staff of Chandana Brothers attacked the municipal officials in which one municipal employee was injured. The staff of Chandana Brothers staged a dharna opposite complex. The injured employee was shifted to Eluru Government Hospital.

Learning about the incident, One Town CI Adapa Naga Murali, One Town SI NR Kishore Babu, A Ramakoteswara Rao reached the spot and pacified the agitating staff.
