Adoni: The Congress and Youth Congress leaders on Saturday pledged their support to the activists of the NSUI, who have been on an indefinite fast at the Ambedkar statue in the town demanding setting up of a government degree college at Adoni.

Congress town president Neelakanthappa and secretary Afsar Basha and Youth Congress leader Maruti Rao said that over 20,000 students belonging to Aluru, Mantralayam, Yemmiganur and Pattikonda Assembly constituencies had to commute to Adoni to pursue education as there was no government degree college. They were forced to seek admission in private degree colleges, they pointed out.

Some of the students unable to pay the high tuition fees being collected by private institutions are forced to quit education after the SSC. The state government on one hand cites lack of no government lands to set up degree college and on the other remained a mute spectator even several acres of government lands are being subjected to encroachment, they pointed out.

They urged the government to take possession of the lands being encroached and set up degree college. They congratulated the NSUI activists for launching the indefinite fast for the government college.
