Vijayawada: Former DGP Nanduri Sambashiva Rao, who retired on Sunday, got emotional during a farewell party hosted by the police department here at Mangalagiri in the capital city.

An IPS officer of 1985 batch officer, Malakondaiah, will be succeeding Sambashiva Rao. Malakondaiah, who held high-profile positions in his career, will be hold the DGP post for six months.

Putting an end to speculation, the Andhra Pradesh government finally appointed a new Director General of Police on Saturday. It may be recalled that the matter has become a controversy as Ministry of Home Affairs sent back the panel of officers who were selected by the state government.

On this occasion, new DGP Malakondaiah thanked AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the opportunity that was given to him. Later, he addressed media persons and delivered a vote of thanks to the former DGP.
