Following an 80-year-old custom, the youth of Settipeta village in Nidadavole stopped a train at their railway station as part of New Year celebrations. The youth have been implementing the tradition laid down by their elders of the village.

Nidadavole: Following an 80-year-old custom, the youth of Settipeta village in Nidadavole stopped a train at their railway station as part of New Year celebrations. The youth have been implementing the tradition laid down by their elders of the village.

On the New Year Day of 2018, the youth stopped the DEMU passenger service train running between Bhimavaram and Nidadavole and decorated it with flowers and flexis of New Year greetings.

On Monday morning, the members of Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) of Old Christianpet in Settipeta village got on the tracks awaiting the train to reach their station from Nidadavole.

When the DEMU train reached the Settipeta station, it was made to halt for 10 minutes. The youth cleaned the train bogies including the engine and decorated it with flowers and garlands. They distributed sweets to the train driver and the passengers and extended New Year greetings. A youth of Settipeta said that it was their custom to celebrate the New Year by stopping the train and clean it.
