Visakhapatnam: Political parties, women and people’s organisations vociferously condemned the rape of mute tribal girl by a private bus driver on December 30. Leaders and activists of various organisations visited the King George Hospital (KGH) where the victim was admitted to console her and demanded that the government take stringent action against the culprit.

Former tribal welfare minister P Bala Raju and former Araku MLA Siveri Soma visited the rape victim and assured her that they would fight the government till she gets justice. They requested KGH administration to arrange special ward with all facilities for the victim.

Speaking on the occasion, Siveri Soma said that being the victim belonging to Badri tribal community the issue would be taken seriously by the state government and strong action wold be taken without delay.

CPM leader Ch Narasing Rao questioned how the VSEZ (Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone) management had employed such a minor girl without confirming her age through supporting documents, which is against to Child Labour Act.

He demanded that the state government take stringent and immediate action against the private security personnel who had tried “settle” the rape case. He also said that CPM would write a letter to the ministry of commerce against VSEZ management on the issue.

Representatives of various women’s organisations, including K Padma and YSR Congress party senior leader P Usha Kiran alleged that the incident exposed the utter lack of security to women employees in the VSEZ. Usha Kiran demanded the government to pay Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the rape victim and a government job.

She also sought an immediate action against HBL Power Systems Vizag unit in-charge Umapathi and security in-charge Surya Prakash and others who allegedly helped the accused. The women leaders also demanded registration of case under Sections of The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, popularly known as Nirbhaya Act, against the accused.

Meanwhile, due to severe shortage of beds, the KGH authorities failed to provide a bed to the rape victim and asked her to sign in the One Stop Centre in the KGH. A nurse is attending on her. The mute girl, who was raped by a passenger bus driver in VSEZ, was admitted to KGH on Tuesday. The doctors on Wednesday conducted various medical examinations on the victim.
