Eluru: Expressing their displeasure over the state government’s indifference and negligence in solving their problems, the tribals Koruturu panchayat boycotted the Janmabhoomi village-level meeting on Thursday.

They demanded that the government resolve the issues pertaining to those who were displaced. The villagers in Koruturu pointed out that they were facing several problems in the rehabilitation colonies constructed for those displaced people under the Polavaram project.

The tribes of Shivagiri, Chiduru, Tekuru, Sirivaka and Pallapuru villages under the Koruturu Panchayat also boycotted the village meetings. They said that that there was no use of holding such meetings as it was only aimed at distributing pensions and ration cars and not solving the problems of the tribals. They demanded the officials to visit the rehabilitation colonies and listen to the agony of the villagers.

They also demanded the State government to withdraw the inclusion of Boya and Valmiki castes in the Scheduled Tribes list. As a result, the officials had to return without holding meetings.
