Srikakulam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday observed that he will observe silent hunger protest in front of collectorates if any district collector failed to achieve set targets in the construction of toilets.

Participating in Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru Grama Sabha at Itchapuram on Thursday, the Chief Minister stressed on open defecation free (ODF) towns and villages across the state.

Naidu said Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts have so far achieved 100 per cent set target in construction of toilets and the remaining seven districts are yet to achieve their goal.

On the occasion, the CM set a deadline of March 31, for the completion of construction of toilets. Otherwise, he threatened to observe silent hunger protest in front of collectorates if the collectors of respective districts failed to achieve their goal.

The Chief Minister also requested the people to give priority to toilets than cell phones. During his marathon speech, Naidu quoted number of examples from various states and districts to explain the importance of toilets in preventing deceases. Though the Central government is providing insufficient financial aid to toilets, the State government is providing Rs 15,000 for each unit, Naidu stated.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister assured underground drainages (UGD) to villages and towns where more than 5,000 population are residing. Naidu also explained that how he has been overcoming various problems arising from bifurcation of the state. In 2014, the state was facing power scarcity for 22,500 million units. Now, we are surplus in power generation, the Chief Minister elaborated.

Naidu also assured that he would solve the AgriGold depositors issue. The Chief Minister promised to complete all pending irrigation projects in the district in a year.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed Rs 370 crore worth assets to beneficiaries including SHG women. Ministers K Kala Venkata Rao, Pithani Satyanarayana, K Atchannaidu, ZP chairperson Ch Dhanalaxmi, MP K Rammohan Naidu and MLA Bendalam Ashok participated.
