Rajamahendravaram: East Godavari district Congress Committee president Pantham Nanaji said that the four-day Maha Padayatra for Polavaram project would commence on January 7 from Dowlesaram. The yatra will go on until January 9 covering 47 km.

Disclosing the details at a press conference in Priyanka Gardens here on Friday, Nanaji said the padayatra was aimed at mounting pressure on the Union government for project’s speedy completion and bear the entire expenditure of the project. Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy and Rajya Sabha member Dr KVP Ramachandra Rao would walk up to Polavaram project, followed by many party leaders and party men.

Puducherry Chief Minister Narayana Swamy would inaugurate the padayatra at Sir Arthur Cotton statue in Dowleswaram. The DCC president appealed to the leaders of all parties to participate in the programme to materialise the dream of the people. PCC secretary Gidugu Rudra Raju said Congress had decided to take up this padayatra as there is no response from TDP and BJP government, in spite of repeated reminders from Congress party.

The party earlier organised many programmes for the project and now took up padayatra, he said adding that Congress lodged a complaint to Public Accounts Committee in Parliament about the financial misuse in the project.
