Visakhapatnam: The city police registered an SC/ST atrocity case against District Collector Pravin Kumar and deputy director of social welfare department DV Ramana Murty based on a complaint lodged by a woman in the police station.

The police mentioned as Deputy Director Ramana Murthy as A-1 and Collector Pravin Kumar as A-2 in the case.

According to sources, it was alleged that the deputy director had tried to misguide the government and prepared a file which was approved by the Collector. The government is providing financial aid to the SC/ST women who were cheated, attacked and assaulted. The victims should apply through the social welfare departments.

A woman, who was cheated by one person, was facing financial troubles, hence, she approached the deputy director of social welfare department for compensation. According to sections, she is eligible for Rs 3.75 lakh compensation. However, deputy director Ramana Murthy not recommended her name for full compensation and he made some changes in the file and sent it to the Collector for approval.

According to the deputy director’s recommendations, not even examining the file, the Collector signed and sent it for sanctioning of compensation. Finally, the victim received Rs 25,000 as compensation.

The victim woman came to know that the deputy director had changed the sections in which she was eligible for Rs 3.75 lakh compensation and recommended for Rs 25,000 compensation only. With this she filed a case in the Special Court for SC/ST cases and sought for justice.

The court directed her to lodge a complaint against the Collector and Deputy Director. In turn, the victim lodged the complaint in Three Town police station and the police registered a case and transferred the case to the ACP Pravin Kumar who is dealing the SC/ST cases. Further investigation is on.
