Tirupati: Upping the ante against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his home turf, YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday described him as an opportunist.

“Naidu utilises services of leaders and would later discard them,” Jagan said. The Opposition leader began the 54th day of his Padayatra from Pakala town in Chandragiri constituency in Chittoor district.

The Leader of Opposition alleged that Naidu had systematically dismantled the Chittoor Dairy to ensure profits for his family run Heritage Foods. He also alleged that the sugar factories in the cooperative sector were deliberately made sick. Jagan said the YSRCP would initiate measures to restore old glory to the Chittoor Dairy.

Speaking at the Rachabanda (people’s forum) as part of the Praja Sankalpa Yatra at Pakala on Sunday, he said, “Chandrababu Naidu was born and brought up in this Chandragiri constituency for which he has scant respect.

The Seshapuram school in which he studied lies today in a dilapidated condition and the 100-bed hospital sanctioned by YSR could not be completed and he is pursuing use-and-throw policy to further his political and commercial agenda.”

Jagan said Naidu won his first election to Assembly in 1977 with a slender majority of 2,500 votes and became a Minister. When he returned to contest the election again, he lost the election by over 15,600 votes. When NTR again revived his political career, Chandrababu Naidu back-stabbed him to usurp power, the Opposition leader said.

He alleged that Naidu has been cheating all sections of people including farmers, women groups, students, minorities and all sections while housing and pensions have taken a backseat.

“Before elections, Naidu comes to you with a bagful of promises and once he comes to power, he conveniently forgets everything. Such people should be taught a lesson,” Jagan said. The Opposition leader stressed the need for promoting politics with ethics, credibility and values.

Voters should have the power to question a leader if he fails to fulfil poll promises, he further said. YSRCP State vice-president and Punganuru MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Rajampeta MP P Mithun Reddy, Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and senior party leader B Karunakar Reddy were present.
