Visakhapatnam: Pink Run organised on the Beach Road to create more awareness on breast cancer here on Sunday evoked good response. United Sisters Foundation and Arena Events jointly organised the run in three categories 10-K, 5-K and 3-K on third consecutive year.

Noted fitness promoter and Pinkathon ambassador Milind Soman led the event. A large number of women enthusiastically participated in the Run and some of the women took part along with their children. Assistant Commissioner of Police (traffic) K Prabhakar flagged off the run.

Speaking on the occasion, Milind Soman said that Pink Run is being conducted in the cities to create awareness on breast cancer. Many women were suffering from breast cancer. Due to the lack of the awareness on breast cancer, the number was increasing across the country, he pointed out.

Earlier, women are reluctant to participate in the Run but now the trend has been changed and women are coming out, Milind Soman said. He cautioned the women that breast cancer could be afflicted to women of all age groups. If the cancer detected in the early stage, it would be cured.

In order to alert the women to identify the cancer in an early stage, Pink Run was being conducting in the cities, he elaborated. Though the run is meant for women, a large number of elderly men and children participated in the event. The women, along with their new-borns, too, took part in the Run. Milind Soman’s mother Usha and event organiser Sireesha were present.
