Tirupati: To improve sports infrastructure in the temple city, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Managing Director and Special Chief Secretary L V Subrahmanyam has sanctioned Rs 93 lakh.

Two months ago, SSC Administrative Officer Varalakshmi had sent proposals to the state government for improving the sports amenities in Tirupati. The SAAP sanctioned funds based on her proposals.

The funds will be utilised for setting up a new fitness centre with modern equipment at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, Rs 8 lakh for conversion of tennis court into four-layer synthetic turf court; another Rs 8 lakh for creation of new infrastructure to swimming pool; Rs 8 lakh for laying mats in the indoor badminton court at SSC; Rs 15 lakh for construction of new gymnasium and Rs 4 lakh for other renovation works.

Three days ago, MCT Commissioner Ch Hari Kiran and engineers along with Varalakshmi have inspected the SAAP swimming pool complex. Hari Kiran had instructed the engineers to complete the renovation works in swimming pool in a stipulated time. Speaking to The Hans India, Varalakshmi stated that the SAAP funds will be utilised as per the instruction of District Collector PS Pradyumna.
