Vijayawada: The expansion of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam road is all set to revive its glory in many development aspects. The NH-65 four-way lane road stretch will play an important role in the development of the entire East Krishna region.

The road is well noted as Bandar Road and also the most popular for private educational institutions, real estate market, infrastructure projects, fertile lands and richest villages. The land prices on the road stretch are always high compared to Hyderabad market.

The road lost its importance and demand due to the slump in the real estate market. However, the state government has started expansion of road work recently at an estimated cost of Rs 1,462 crore. The road is being expanded or widened from 120 feet to 150 feet differently in various areas from Kanuru village limits to Machilipatnam town. The road also will be most useful for Machilipatnam port operations.

In the past, the road stretch had been most preferable for investments. The real estate activity and gated community residential colonies culture also began on the road stretch. The NRIs of Krishna and Guntur districts also used to invest in various projects.

But the fate of Bandar Road has changed when Amaravati was declared as capital. The investors started shifting towards the regions surrounding Amaravati region. From then, the realty, infrastructure activity and associated developments got slowed down.

Moreover, the increasing traffic has caused challenges to hundreds of villages and thousands of vehicles which move daily on the stretch. In this backdrop, the state government started expansion of work on the 64.61 km between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam.

The road covers towns like Kankipadu, Vuyyuru, Pamarru and several prominent villages. As per the plans, the road works should be completed by October 2018. With the ongoing progress, the works may be completed within the deadline, announced District Collector Lakshmikantham.

Already, the port company also requested the district administration by explaining the importance of expansion before port development works. Poranki village sarpanch Vemuri Swaroopa Rani said that the road stretch was the main way for Krishna district and the ongoing expansion would be useful to villages and towns.
