Woman, daughter sustain burn injuries

Eluru: A woman and her 16-year-old daughter sustained burn injuries in a fire mishap at their house in Pentapadu village in in West Godavari district on Wednesday. According to police, Pitani Arjuna Rao, a daily wage worker, is residing in Pentapadu with his wife Pitani Venkata Lakshmi (45), daughter Lakshmi Prasanna (15) and his son Mutyala Rao.

Both father and son went out for work. Meanwhile, Venkata Lakshmi lit the gas stove to heat water for her daughter. As the gas cylinder was leaking a fire broke out and engulfed the kitchen room and subsequently, the woman. On seeing her mother in flames, her daughter Lakshmi Prasanna immediately went into the kitchen to save her. However, both were caught in fire and they managed to cover with a blanket.

The neighbours, who observed flames in the house, reached the house and controlled the flames and rescued them. But by that time, the duo received serious burn injuries. They were immediately admitted to Tadepalligudem Government Hospital.

The condition of mother and daughter is stated to be critical. Later, the doctors shifted them to Eluru Government Hospital for better treatment. Pentapadu police visited the spot and registered a case.
