Nellore: Central Crime Station (CCS) cops nabbed 37 persons, who were involved in tampering electronic-Point of Sale (e-PoS) machines and withdrawing PDS rice and sugar illegally from the ration shops.

The cops seized 41,755 kilos of rice and 1,193 kilos of sugar worth Rs 10 lakh from them. Addressing the media here on Thursday, CCS DSP M Bala Sundar Rao said that drawing of essential commodities is allowed from the Fair-Price (FP) shops only after finger prints punched on the e-PoS machines.

The VRO of the concerned area is the authorised official to enter the user ID and password of the Joint Collector, he added. “Taking this as an advantage e-PoS Coordinator K Srinivasa Raju shared user ID and password of Joint Collector A Md Imtiaz with his friends and FP shop dealers,” the DSP said and added that they withdrew rice and sugar from the shops and sold the rice at Rs 6,000 per quintal.

The police registered cases under various sections. CCS Circle Inspector S K Bobby Jan Saida, I Town SI Sk Karimulla and other policemen were present.
