Amaravati: APJAC Amaravati chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu said the state government employees held protests in front of treasury offices across the state demanding withdrawal of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPC).

The employees also demanded implementation of GO MS No 107 on gratuity release and GO MS No 121 on family pension release orders. In a press release on Friday, Bopparaju said the CPS scheme was intended for the Central government employees and it was only an option for the state governments.

The AP government entered into the scheme and implemented it from September 1, 2004. He said Tripura and West Bengal government were implementing the old pensions schemes.

Venkateswarlu said that for the first time in the country, the state government sanctioned gratuity and family pension to the 1.84 lakh of CPS employees in the last year. “The credit goes to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. But the government has not implemented the GOs 121 and 107 so far. I request the Chief Minister to give directions to officials in this regard,” he said.

He said nearly 1.86 lakhs employees and teachers joined service after September 1, 2004 and they were not eligible for pension as per AP Pension Rules, 1980. He also said the post retirement life of an employee or teacher under the CPS would be uncertain and unsafe without pension.
