Srikakulam: The government is according top priority in introducing reforms in police department. As part of it, Superintendent of Police CM Trivikrama Varma took initiative by providing weekly-offs to constables and head constables in Armed Reserve (AR) and Civil (law and order) wings for the first time in the state.

From July 23, 2017, weekly-off system was launched for Armed Reserve constables and head constables on an experimental basis and it came into effect from August 1, 2017. Total number of constables and head constables in Armed Reserve wing are 476 and every day on an average 60 men are availing the facility, according to sources.

This system was being implemented for civil wing from November 1, 2017. In all, 1,125 constables and head constables are working in Civil wing in 46 police stations across the district, including traffic, women and Central Crime Station (CCS). Due to heavy work pressure, civil policemen are availing holidays for every 15 days now. The Superintendent of Police is monitoring the records online every day.

Armed Reserve wing constables Ch Umamaheswara Rao- wife Hemalatha, R Rambabu-wife Puspalatha and V Simhadri Rao-wife Nirosha shared their happiness with The Hans India over weekly-offs.

“It is a good decision as the system will relieve stress,” civil wing constable working with Rajam town police station Hanumanthu Venkata Ramana, along with his wife Hymavathi, expressed his happiness.

“Due to lack of holidays and work pressure, constables and head constables are suffering from various physical and mental disorders after 45 and 50 years. Therefore, to avoid it, we introduced weekly-offs,” said Superintendent of Police CM Trivikrama Varma explained to this newspaper.
