Nellore: Even though officials planned to support farmers by obtaining special permission from the Chief Minister for releasing water from Somasila Reservoir, water wasted due to lax attitude and negligence when water was released in huge quantity without considering capacity of the canal.

The Somasila South Canal got a breach at Chakaligunta close to Kaluvoya on Tuesday night when officials released 250 cusecs of water instead of 200 cusecs. Farmers said water was wasted due to breach and they were unable to manage it. Consequently; paddy fields, banana plants, vegetable crops and other farm lands were submerged in water.
