Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu pledged to drive away the drought conditions from Chittoor district by bringing Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) water to western parts and Somasila-Swarnamukhi water to the eastern parts.

Addressing the media at his native village Naravaripalle on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said bringing water to district was delayed from the original schedule as one person created some problem near Puttaparthi but it was cleared.

“I instructed the Collector to clear bottlenecks at Madanapalle to supply HNSS water to district,” he stated. The HNSS water will reach Madanapalle first and then to Punganur, Palamaner and Kuppam.

Later, they will reach up to Chittoor through Valmikipuram thus it caters to the needs of western belt. On eastern side, Somasila-Swarnamukhi water will reach Mallemadugu and Balaji reservoirs which will be taken to Pichatur. Once, this is completed the whole district will be covered and there will not be droughts, he said.

Referring to the tomato farmers, the Chief Minister reiterated that Madanapalle will be developed as tomato hub. “We are working with Japanese company to establish food processing industry in Madanapalle which will further boost up new avenues for tomato farmers.

Till now, tomato crop is raised even with dew in that area. If they are provided with assured water then two or three crops are possible,” he explained. Chandrababu said Kuppam will become a centre for vegetable exports.

He said the government will give encouragement to mango farmers, and support to sericulture and dairy and dairy industry will be taken as main growth engine. Expressing his vision, the Chief Minister said the state will become 100 per cent ODF by March 31. The tourism can be promoted in a big way as the district has more number of temples.

Especially, the district has large scope for village and farm tourism, he mentioned. “On industrial front, the district is forging ahead with Sri City. Food processing, automobiles, hardware and software industries will come to the district on a large scale,” he informed.

Chandrababu said Chittoor has the advantage of being near to Krishnapatnam Port. The government will develop Nellore, Sullurpet and Tirupati as three places are connected more to Chennai, he said added ‘tri city development’ will generate large scale employment opportunities and will be made as ‘Special Employment Zone’.

The express way connects Kurnool, Kadapa and Anantapur with Amaravati and it will passes through the Venkatagiri at some point. It will be a parallel highway to the existing NH-5. From Venkatagiri it will be connected to Yerpedu which makes the journey to Amaravati from Nellore district much easier, the Chief Minister said.

He called the people to maintain family relations and meet all family members at least once in a year. “It is important to maintain human relations,” he averred.

Chandrababu will be leaving to New Delhi on Wednesday to participate in a preparatory meeting organised by CII for the forthcoming investors meet at Visakhapatnam in February. To a question, he said the Trust Board for the TTD will be appointed immediately. It was delayed for some reasons, he said.
