Vijayawada: A road accident that occurred on Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road on Wednesday night created a flutter in the city as rumours spread that a car in which the son of Vijayawada MLA Jaleel Khan travelling dashed against a two-wheeler injuring the rider and pillion rider.

The two injured persons were identified as Maddala Kalyan Kumar (32) and K Mahesh Babu (25). When they were going from Mother Teresa statue junction towards Nirmala Junction on Wednesday at 11 pm a speeding car hit the Bullet. The driver tried to overtake another vehicle going in the same direction and hit the two-wheeler close to the divider.

The two injured persons were shifted to a private hospital in Patamata. The police immediately nabbed the Volks Wagon car driver Eedpuganti Teja, who was driving the car. Machavaram police, who are investigating the case, registered a case under the section 307 against the car driver Eedpuganti Teja.

Interestingly, the police also stopped another car in which Shahul Khan, the son of Vijayawada West MLA Jaleel Khan, was travelling and took him to the police station for questioning.

Vijayawada Central ACP N Satyanandam, who inspected the accident spot, said that Shahul Khan with some other friends was going to attend a birthday party to a restaurant located on Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road and the vehicle in which he was travelling had not hit the two-wheeler.

The ACP said they had verified the CCTV footage of the mishap and spoke to the victims as well as the car driver Eedpuganti Teja. He said there was no evidence that the vehicle in which Shahul Khan was travelling hit the bike.

Meanwhile, the news of accident had gone viral in the social media since Thursday morning. The YSRCP leaders Malladi Vishnu and Velampalli Srinivasa Rao alleged that the son of MLA had driven the vehicle and he was responsible for the mishap.

Addressing a media conference at the party office, the two leaders said earlier the son of Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, too, had indulged in rash driving. The two leaders demanded that investigation be conducted and guilty should be punished. West MLA Jaleel Khan denied the allegations that his son was driving the car when the mishap took place.

He said his rivals are trying to defame him and his family members. Machavaram Circle Inspector V Umamaheswara Rao registered a case and took up the investigation.
