Amaravati: A school dropout who has been re-admitted in ninth class in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayam (KGBV) secured third rank in International Science Olympiad.

Students from 33 countries participated in the Olympiad, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu felicitated the student Sai Satvika from Kadapa district on the second day of the Collectors conference here on Friday.

The student attracted the attention of all participants at the conference and enjoyed the applause of all IAS and other officials and Ministers taking part in the conference.

Speaking after the felicitation, Satvika said that she was inspired by virtual classrooms being implemented by the State government. She said she was interested in developments in science and technology.

She said that she wanted to become as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer responding to a question posed by the Chief Minister. Naidu said that such talent in the State needs to be encouraged and announced that the government would bear the expenses of the child’s higher education and also ordered a fixed deposit of Rs 5 lakh in the girl’s name.

The Chief Minister explained that despite facing a disturbed childhood, the girl showcased her talent in the science Olympiad. Her effort should provide inspiration to others.

Naidu informed the conference that the girl’s mother died and her father married another woman. Then Sai Satvika was left with her grandmother and was unable to go to school.

At this juncture, she was admitted in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayam, where the government offers education to school dropouts and she was admitted in ninth class.
