Achanta: Hundreds of devotees thronged the pilgrim centre Penugonda to offer prayers to Goddess Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari here on Friday. Arya Vysyas will perform the self-sacrifice day of Goddess Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari every year.

Devotees from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telugu States reached Penugonda in West Godavari to offer prayers to Goddess. Vasavi Deeksha devotees and women in large numbers had the darshan of Goddess Vasavi Kanyaka at the temple.

In the morning, Vasavi Yuvajana Sangham offered silk clothes to Goddess and conducted Gramotsav. The women reached the temple chanting Goddess name by taking 102 pots.

Temple vedic priest Ramadugula Narasimha Murthy conducted 102 homams to relieve devotees from the Deeksha of Vasavi Kanyaka. Special prayers also offered on the occasion to Lord Nagarejeswara Swamy by conducting Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam and Panchamritabhishekam to Goddess.

Temple executive officer KJ Srinivas and staff made elaborate arrangements at the temple. Meanwhile, the devotees conducted abhishekam and hoisted Vasavi Kanyaka flag at Vasavi Dhamam in Penugonda. Vasavi Dhamam president Dr TN Govindarajulu, founder president S Ramamurthy and local action committee president Venkateswara Rao participated.
