Anantapur: The district will soon get into the international sports map for hosting Formula Three car races if Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's recent announcement in this regard is any indication.

The Tourism department has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) towards introducing the Formula-3 car races and has identified Kotipalle village in the district for establishing the prestigious sports village in about 1,000 acres, according to sources in the Revenue department.

After getting the Chief Minister's formal approval, the project will be completed in 18 months and is likely to generate about 1,000 jobs. It may be recalled that the project originally was conceived in 2008 when Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister but like the ‘Science City' and the ‘Lepakshi City’, the project did not see the light of the day.

Now, Naidu appears to be determined to ground the project and complete the same before the next Assembly elections. Under the project, a track would be laid, which can withstand a top speed of 250 kmph. The main difference between Formula One and Formula Three is top speed. In Formula One, the top speed of cars is in the range of 350 kmph to 450 kmph.

The Tourism department prepared all the required plans to get approval from the Chief Minister. Chandrababu is also contemplating execution of a similar project in Amaravati too and dubbed it as the Amaravati Race Resort Project. As a replica to Formula One with minor changes in speed it has become a Formula Three. Cars speedily racing on kilometres of tracks made especially for them will be seen now in Andhra Pradesh.

The attempt of the Chief Minister to bring Formula One to the state is attaining fruition in this manner. Mukesh Kumar Meena, Secretary of Tourism and Cultural department has prepared a project for Forumla Three. While this project is formed with the partnership of the government and private sectors.

The Tourism department is planning to complete the Formula 3 project with Driven International Limited and Motor Sports Formula Operators. A special track of 3.3 km will be created for car racing. A DPR is being made ready throughout the track and with a modern resort, middle-level conference comforts and amusement park with modern sound and light shows will be available.
