Tirupati: The former speaker of AP Legislative Assembly Dr Agarala Eswar Reddi observed that there should be no political intervention while awarding the greatest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’.

In a press release on Friday, he said that it should be decided on merit like the jury giving round the world and knowing the efficiency of the applicants and awarding like the Nobel prize in various disciplines.

There should not be any pressure from political stalwarts in this regard, he underlined. He recalled that Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu and Acharya NG Ranga were not awarded Bharat Ratna till now.
