Nellore: City Mayor Sk Abdul Aziz said that they would provide drinking water treated with ozonation technology at a cost of Rs 2 crore to the city residents. He along with the Municipal Commissioner Alim Basha inspected the Summer Storage Tank here on Friday.
The Mayor observed working condition of the pump house, chemical house, flash mixture, filter house, main pump house and other departments as part of the storage tank. He tested quality of the water at the pump house and directed the staff to improve quality of water.
Speaking to the media, the Mayor said that the civic body is having a responsibility of providing pure drinking water to the citizens. He lamented that they were not able to provide purified water to the people due to some technical problems.
“We would implement activated carbon filter technology to filter the water. Water will be purified with Ozonation technology when compared to chlorination process,” he stated. He also informed that no Corporation in the state has been implementing the technology.
Aziz explained that authorities would ensure quality of water conducting periodical tests and the project would be completed likely by March. Nellore Municipal Corporation SE Ravi Krishna Raju, officials Sharif, Lakshmana Murthy, Corporators Raja Naidu, Penchala Naidu and others were present.
