Accused in theft attempts suicide

Eluru: A 27-year-old accused in a theft case attempted suicide in police station in Tadepalligudem town in West Godavari on Monday. The Tadepalligudem police arrested Mottikayala Venkata Subbayya,27 of Tadikalapudi in Kamavarapukota mandal on a theft case and brought to town police station. The accused was scheduled to be produced before a court on Monday.

Meanwhile, the accused went to bathroom and hanged with a rope to the window rods. Hearing his cries, the police rescued him. Later they shifted him to Tadepalligudem government hospital. The accused was undergoing treatment at the hospital. As his condition said to be serious, they shifted him to ASRAM Hospital near Eluru.

Kovvuru DSP Venkateswara Rao said “We have to keep ready all the records to produce him before a court. Meanwhile, the accused asked the police that he will go to bathroom. When they allowed, he went into bathroom and attempted suicide.” However, the police immediately responded and shifted him to Tadepalligudem government hospital and later shifted to ASRAM hospital, he added.

Now his condition is stable, he added. It is learnt that the accused was caught when he involved in a bike theft case. When he brought to the police station, some police personnel are discussing on various cases including two theft cases. The accused attempted suicide fearing that those cases might be framed against him, according to police sources.
