Visakhapatnam: A lab technician, M Kiran Kumar, working at the Medall diagnostic centre on the premises of King George Hospital here was arrested on Sunday on charges of molestation of a woman patient. I Town police arrested the technician of the lab following a complaint by the woman patient, who alleged that the technician molested her while doing a CT scan at the Medall diagnostic centre in on Saturday morning.
According to police, a 42-year-old woman patient of Pedagantyada in the district was admitted to ESI hospital in the city with symptoms of paralysis. She was referred her to KGH on January 19 for better treatment. After examining the patient, KGH doctor Bhanu Prasad recommended for a CT scan of the brain. She was taken to the Medall diagnostic centre on the hospital premises after midnight of same day. Resident Medical Officer, KGH, KSLG Sastri said Kiran, a technician working as a contract employee at the diagnostic centre had conducted the CT scanning. Patient’s husband Seshagiri Rao on Sunday met the KGH authorities and lodged a complaint alleging that the CT scan operator had tried to pull the sari of the patient and also molested her.
Later, he lodged a complaint with I Town police station against Kiran Kumar. Confirming the arrest of Kiran, I Town SI Rama Rao said that the CC TV footage recorded taking of patient into the lab only and there was no footage from inside of the lab. “There was no third person when the CT scan was done in the lab. However, based on the complaint, we have registered a case and arrested the accused. He will be produced in court on Monday,” the SI said.
Meanwhile, Kiran colleagues and employees of KGH said that Kiran, who has been working in the lab for the last one-and-a-half years, was a good technician and there had been no complaints about such behaviour against him so far.
