In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old girl studying in a private convent, committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at her residence in Chittinagar on Monday as she was scared that her mother may question her over her friendship with a boy.

Vijayawada: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old girl studying in a private convent, committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at her residence in Chittinagar on Monday as she was scared that her mother may question her over her friendship with a boy. The panic- stricken girl took the extreme step after she spoke to her friend over cell phone for three days without going to school.

The incident took place when her parents went to Chennai to take care of his ailing brother, who was studying there. According to Two-Town police, Uyyala Likhita, an eighth standard girl, studying a reputed convent in old city ended her life on Monday.

Her parents Uyyala Sekhar and Janaki Rani went to Chennai one week ago to see her brother. Janaki’s sister Dhanalakshmi was asked to stay at home and take care of Likhita. But, the girl was not going to school and been talking to her friend over the cell phone for three days. This had irritated the maternal aunt, who said she would inform about her phone calls to mother Janaki Rani.

Fearing that she may be questioned by her mother, the girl ended her life. Her father is working in the information department. Two-town police registered a case and collecting the phone call data to whom she spoke to for the last three days. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
