A farmer threatened suicide with a kerosene can and match box in hand at the Collectorate here on Monday while grievances redressal programme was going on. The farmer was identified as Tankala Mohan Ranga of Bathuva village in G Sigadam mandal.

Srikakulam: A farmer threatened suicide with a kerosene can and match box in hand at the Collectorate here on Monday while grievances redressal programme was going on. The farmer was identified as Tankala Mohan Ranga of Bathuva village in G Sigadam mandal.

According to information, Mohana Ranga had applied for agricultural power connection two years ago but revenue officials did not issue relevant documents and APEPDCL officials not sanctioned power connection.

The farmer reportedly submitted petitions at grievances cell from mandal level to district level and also to the Chief Minister, Janmabhoomi programmes but problem was not solved.

He had allegedly been harassed by a local TDP leader who is a realtor who wanted to buy the land and obstructed power connection by influencing officials. On learning of the threat by farmer, revenue officials rushed to spot. District collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy also reached to spot and assured the farmer to redress his grievance in two days.
