Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that the state government had issued GO No46 to supply drinking water to the households in rural areas with Rs15,730 crore. Interacting with the media persons at R&B guest house here on Tuesday, the Minister said that they would provide drinking water to the rural areas in the district with Rs1,640 crore.

Government would supply 70 litre per person, he added.‘Measures would be taken to supply drinking water to Venkatagiri, Gudur, andSullurpet towns from Kandaleru reservoir. Water would also be supplied to Udayagiri and Kavali areas from Somasila reservoir after discussing with irrigation and rural water supply authorities,’ the Minister said, adding tenders will be invited for the project on January 27 after preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

There would be no chlorination problem for Udayagiri areas and salt water issue for coastal population with implementation of the project, Somireddy said.He also explained that there would be no transportation of water with tankers with the project andcost for providing drinking water to people would be reduced. About 3,046 villages in the district would benefitwith the project, he stated. Further, Minister laid foundation stone for the construction of aCement Concrete road at Muthukurwith Rs75 lakh and also to fish market with Rs7.5 lakh. He also laid stone for the sports centre at a cost of Rs2 crore. Later,the Minister distributed tractors to the beneficiaries under RythuRatham scheme.

Speaking at the meeting, Somireddy said that construction works of mini stadium in Muthukur has been started. One acre of land was allocated for construction of fish market in Muthukur, he added. Joint Collector AMdImtiyaz Ahmed said that they would complete mini stadiums in the district before December this year. Kovur MLA PSrinivasulu Reddy, Gudur MLA PSunil, MLC VBalasubrahmanyam, RWS SE Krishna Reddy, NUDA Chairman KSrinivasulu Reddy, RDO DHaritha and others were present.
