Visakhapatnam: The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC), which reviews the Central sponsored schemes and programmes, expressed dissent over the implementation of the Central schemes in the district. The committee pointed out that the officials are not providing complete details of the works.

Chairing the meeting, Araku MP K Geetha said that the officials are not giving the targets of the works, sanctioned amount, completed works, utilised amount and selection of the beneficiaries and how many people were benefitted so far. She also directed the officials to prepare a complete note on the Central works and status. She also said the officials must also register the public opinion on the Central schemes and changes if any.

The members, including Co-Chairman and Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu, pointed out that the several works were taken up with the Central funds are not being completed as per schedule. The roads and houses taken up under MGNREGA are not being completed. The committee also pointed out social audit complaints are also not being addressed by officials. Both the MPs vented their ire at the officials for not completing the works. The committee directed the officials to complete the road works in the agency areas with the help of the armed forces. The committee also directed the district administration to cancel the contracts of those who failed to complete the works in the stipulated time.

The committee also noticed that the roads, houses and panchayat buildings were damaging within no time due to the poor quality of the material used in the construction of the buildings and laying of roads. The committee directed the Collector to fix responsibilities to the contractor and recovery the money, if the constructions are damaged within no time. Discussing about the medical services in the agency, the committee said that due to the lack of the drivers, the tribals are not availing the ambulance services during emergencies.

The committee directed the Collector to recruit the drivers to the ambulances at least on an outsourcing basis immediately.
