Kovvuru: Excise Minister KS Jawahar on Tuesday said that Rs 4 crore would be spent on works for the development of Kovvuru town. He laid foundation stone to construct BT road from Meraka Veedhi to Bus Stand and Bus Stand to Vijayavihar in Kovvuru town on Tuesday morning. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of outdoor and indoor stadia and swimming pool.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that he was seeking cooperation from all sections of people for the beautification of Kovvuru. Dividers and electrical poles would be constructed to make the town beautiful. He also stated that an underground drainage system would be taken up as part of the Swacha Kovvuru programme.

He said that stadia would be constructed to inculcate interest in sports among the youth and students in the town. A badminton indoor stadium was constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore previously in the region. He stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had given an A+ grade to Kovvuru constituency recently.

Municipal Chairperson Jonnalagadda Radha Rani, AMC chairman Vegi Satyanarayana, Municipal Commissioner P Nagendra Kumar, Society leader Jonnalagadda Subbaraya Chowdary, Municipal Vice-Chairman Raja Ramesh, DSDO SA Aziz, AP Housing Deputy EE G Pitchayya and AE P Venkateswara Rao participated in the programme.
