The residents are on a hunger strike for 42 days with a demand to retain their houses.

Rajamahendravaram: BC Women Welfare Association secretary K Harika has said that the outfit would commence an indefinite hunger strike in front of the municipal corporation office shortly, condemning the step-motherly attitude of the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) towards the residents of Indira Satya Nagar. The residents are on a hunger strike for 42 days with a demand to retain their houses.

Speaking to reporters at Press Club here on Tuesday, she said, “The RMC passed a resolution earlier to lay a 40 feet road, retaining the existing houses in the remaining 40 feet stretch. But, contrary to the resolution, now the corporation was trying to remove all the houses for the proposed road and also to benefit some bigwigs in the city,” she alleged.

She accused Urban MLA Dr Akula Satyanarayana of assuring to settle the problem and now keeping mum on the issue. Rastriya Praja Congress (RPC) president, Meda Srinivas said that the corporation was trying to uproot residents from their homes and extended RPC support to the distressed. City Congress president NV Srinivas said the Congress stands in support of the protest.
