Surgery on month old infant successful
A 30-day-old baby got new lease of life after the doctors performed a complicated and rare neural surgery successfully at Manipal Hospitals near the city.
Vijayawada: A 30-day-old baby got new lease of life after the doctors performed a complicated and rare neural surgery successfully at Manipal Hospitals near the city.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, neuro surgeon, Ravikanth said that a complicated neural surgery was performed on the infant as a fetal cyst on the spine was operated and removed. The doctor said that a 21-day-old baby boy, Hema Chandra was brought to the hospital with a swelling on his lower back giving out a watery discharge.
Post examination, the doctors found that the baby suffered from Diastometa Myelia and decided to operate on the baby. Dr Ravikanth and pediatric surgeon, K Ravi Kumar performed the surgery successfully without damaging a single neural tissue. “The surgery was performed when the baby was 30 days old,” he added.
He said post the surgery, the baby was kept under observation for four days and was discharged with no complaints. The operation was performed under NTR Arogya Seva.
