Vijayawada: Penamaluru police on Wednesday arrested a woman for allegedly cheating software engineer working in the US and collecting money of Rs.1.86 lakh from him.

The police said the woman had created a fake account in Facebook and began chatting with the US-based man and cleverly collected money from him. According to DCP Gajarao Bhupal, a 30-year-old woman Vallapuri Deepti, a resident of Brodipet, Guntur, had created a fake account with the name Sai Dhanya Bheemineni and attracting men.

She befriended with the software engineer Dharani Kumar and proposed marriage. She told him that she wants some money to attend examinations in the US. The victim blindly trusted her and transferred Rs.1.86 lakh.

Later, she stopped chatting with him and not responding to his messages. Dharani came to know that he was cheated and lodged a complaint with city police through 4thlion app. Based on the complaint, Penamaluru police registered a case and arrested the accused Vallapuri Deepti. She was produced in the court on Wednesday.
