Chittoor: Participating in the 8th National Voters’ Day celebrations held at Nagaiah Kalakshetram here on Thursday, District Collector PS Pradyumna said that India is a role model for the world in conducting elections in a democratic way.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector explained the significance of vote in a democratic country like India. He stated that the few countries are following the Indian model of conducting elections.

He gave a call to 18 years completed youth to register their names in the electoral list. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for eligible voters to enrol their names in the list, he stated, expressing serious concern over low percentage of voting in urban segments during polls. The Collector said people have the right to demand the government on issues if they exercise their franchise.
