Amaravati: TDP national president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the party was launching Chandranna Mundadugu with inspiration from Dr BR Ambedkar to create awareness among SCs on government welfare schemes.

Inaugurating the party programme at Undavalli here on Friday, Naidu who returned to Amaravati from Davos after attending World Economic Forum conference, explained that the TDP government has been implementing various developmental programmes and welfare schemes for the upliftment and wellbeing of SCs.

He said that the government had been giving Rs 40,000 as Chandranna Pelli Kanuka (marriage gift) to the newly-married couple, encouraging inter-caste marriages by providing Rs 50,000, allocated Rs 9,500 crore as SC Sub Plan for the current financial year and was spending hundred per cent funds meant for SC welfare as per the budget.

The TDP president blamed the then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy for not giving funds to the SC Corporation which was defunct under his rule. “The Congress leaders had diverted the SC Sub Plan funds. But the TDP government is spending the Sub Plan funds fully for the SCs only,” he added.

While unveiling the Dalita Tejam poster, Naidu said that with this single programme he got very much satisfaction in his life. He observed that this gave more satisfaction since the party was able to launch the programme on Republic Day. The TDP founder NT Rama Rao always told the party leaders that the SCs, STS and BCs were the backbone for the party.

The Chief Minister claimed that he was inspired by Ambedkar and working for realisation of his ideals. He further added that NTR had worked with Babu Jagjivan Ram and gave much importance to the leader. Till then, none of the leaders gave priority to Jagjivan Ram, he observed.

He alleged that Congress and other parties did not give priority to SCs in the state. The TDP made GMC Balayogi as Lok Sabha Speaker, gave finance ministry to Mahendranath and many other posts to the SCs, explained Naidu. He said that he would be with SCs till they are developed in all sectors, which was the wish of Ambedkar.
