Vote is not only a right, but also a responsibility

Pithapuram: Senior Civil Judge Ammanna Raja said that exercising one’s franchise is not only every citizen’s right but also his or her responsibility.

He was the chief guest at a programme organised on the occasion of the National Voters’ Day at RRBHR Government High School here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the right to vote formed the basis for democracy. Election officer Ramachandra Murthy called upon youth, who attained the age of 18 years, to utilise their right to vote. He also asked people, who hitherto not enrolled in the list of voters, to enrol as voters.

Assistant government pleader S M Ali, tahsildar B Suguna, school head master and others spoke. Later, senior voters were felicitated. New voters were provided with identity cards.

Prizes were distributed among winners of essay-writing and elocution competitions conducted for the occasion. Earlier, students formed a human chain in the form of India map at Bangaramma Ravichettu Center.
