Addressing officials, people's representatives and the general public on the occasion, Pandian said that Rs.2,744 crores worth loan waiver was affected in the district benefitting 8.99 lakh farmers. Also 6.25 lakh farmers benefitted from input subsidy payment of Rs.1032 crores and Rs.418 crores on climate based insurance payment.

As part of the pro-farmers policies being pursued by the government, soils in the farmers crop fields were being collected to test the soil health and to recomend crops which suited their soils and for achieving higher yields. So far 1.63 lakh soil samples were collected which benefitted 5.47 lakh farmers in the district.

Pandian said that in order to transform the district into a horticulture club, area expansion of horticulture crops were being affected apart from promoting shade net nurseries and green houses.

The district collector said that the district occupied top position in popularising micro irrigation by bringing 2.31 lakh acres under micro irrigation benefitting 2.01 lakh farmers. So far in the current fiscal, Rs.221 crores were spent on bringing another 31,750 acres under micro irrigation.

Under a plan to make the district self sufficient in fodder cultivation, Pandian revealed that fodder fields of 5 acres plots were developed in 1003 panchayaths spending Rs.32.51 crores on the scheme.

The Hundri Neeva irrigation project which is viewed as a life line to the district is fast progressing. The canal widening works from Muchumarri to Jeedipalle reservoir was taken up at a cost of Rs.1030 crores. Last year around 23 tmc of water was given to the district and 43 minor irrigation tanks were filled.

Under the NREGS scheme 73,883 families completed 100 days of work in the 2017-18 year. So far 2.77 lakh farmers were paid Rs.257.84 crores for their work turned out.

For recharging the ground water in the district, 76,883 farmhoudhury and Mayor ponds have been dug in the district ut of 1 lakh targeted. On the industrial front Pandian said that the Kia Motors project is a boon to the district. With an investment of Rs.13.500 crores, the project is generating 11000 jobs and also 18 ancillary units would come up with an investment of 3,280 crores.

The District Collector Veera Pandian, local MLA Prabhakar Choudhury and Mayor Swaroopa have also unveiled 10 feet flag at the Tower Clock and a freedom fighter stupa. Freedom fighter Shyama Murthy was also felicitated on the occasion.
