Nellore: The red sanders task force team and the local police nabbed 9 smugglers in Kaluvoya, Dakkili, and Seetharamapuram mandals conducting simultaneous raids and seized 58 red sander logs worth Rs 65 lakh.

Four motorcycles and 10 mobile phones were also seized from them. The accused were identified as Damodaran Hari Krishna; Ahmed Shabir; J Chengala Raju; D Siva Kumar; M Siva Kumar; A Meeraiah; J Dilip Kumar; H. Sharif and K Jagan Babu.

According to OSD-Crimes T P Vithaleswar, red sanders task force team members conducted raids at Dakkili, Seetharampuram and Kaluvoya and nabbed 7 inter-State accused from Tamil Nadu and 2 local smugglers.

The task force team and police have apprehended three smugglers and seized 19 red sanders logs weighing 234.5 kg and seized 4 mobile phones in Dakkili police station limits.

They apprehended 3 smugglers including two from Tamil Nadu and seized 19 red sander logs and also 3 mobile phones under Kaluvoya Police station limits. Police arrested 3 inter-state smugglers who were from Tamil Nadu, seized 20 red sanders logs weighing 201.7 kg and 3 mobile phones from them under Kalovoya Police station limits, the senior police officer said.

Seven smugglers from Tamil Nadu have been illegally transporting red sander logs from Veligonda forest areas to Chennai and then to other countries, he added.

OSD (Crimes) also informed that they had formed three teams to nab the accused who are at large. He informed that they had filed 9 cases against the smugglers during this year and seized 1.5 tonnes of red sander logs after arresting 31 smugglers. Dakkili Sub-Inspector Maridi Naidu, Seetharamapuram S.I Rakesh and Kaluvoya SI Sydulu were also present.
