The 69th Republic Day was celebrated across the district on Friday in a grand manner. People greeted each other on the occasion. Tirupati Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty unfurled the national flag at armed Police Grounds in the city and addressed the public and police personnel. He underlined the importance of police job, who can serve people well.

It is important to have self-discipline and every police should respect their job by extending their services in the given framework, he said. Mohanty has mentioned 22.5 percent of stolen property was recovered and the number of road accidents came down due to the good work of police.

The city was equipped with 207 CCTV cameras through which clues in 450 cases were unearthed. He took the salute from the police forces and inspected the guard of honour. Additional SP Swamy and others took part.

At Municipal Corporation of Tirupati office, Commissioner C Hari Kiran unfurled the national flag and addressed the gathering. He said, Corporation along with the Police department will equip the city with 2,400 CCTV cameras as part of smart city imitative. Plantation was taken up from Annamayya Circle to ESI Hospital on the occasion.

Additional Commissioner Sridevi, and other officers participated. Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Vice-Chancellor Prof A Damodaram unfurled the tri colour at Tarakarama Stadium and said that the varsity has clinched the prestigious UGC-Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Areas (CPEPA) competing with 118 proposals throughout the country for the first time in its history. Rector Prof M Bhaskar, Registrar Prof RK Anuradha, principals and others took part.

In a colourful ceremony held at the lawns of Business Centre in Sri City, DSP Vimala Kumari unfurled the national flag and took salute from the contingents of Sri City security force. As a part of the celebration, a ‘Make in India’ marathon was organised, under the joint aegis of Sri City Foundation, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR). Over 800 persons, representing the students, employees of industries and public, hit the roads of Sri City for taking part in the 'run'.

On this occasion, the new website of Sri City Sez http://www.sricitysez.in was launched which will have a fresh look and feel and offers a gamut of information. In SVIMS, the Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor Dr TS Ravikumar unfurled the national flag and administered an oath to all employees. He said, SVIMS got ‘Utkrusta Yogyatha Award from the district Collector on the occasion of Republic Day.

SPDCL CMD MM Naik has presented meritorious certificates to several employees. SV Medical College Principal Dr NV Ramanaiah and Ruia Hospital Superintendent Dr Sidda Naik have also unfurled the national flags and felicitated the employees, who have rendered exemplary services.

In Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peetha (RSVP) Vice-Chancellor Prof V Muralidhara Sharma addressed the Sanskrit fraternity after unfurling the tri colour. Registrar Prof Ch P Satryanarayana and other faculty members attended. Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) also celebrated the event at its Bala Vikas Project office in Karakambadi. Project Manager D Jayachandra Naidu participated as chief guest.
