Eluru: National SC Commission member K Ramulu has said that the State government should give financial assistance and provide other benefits to 130 Dalit families, who were socially boycotted in Garagaparru village of West Godavari district.

Talking to reporters at ZP guesthouse here on Monday, he said the government announced Rsone lakh compensation should be given to other 38 people also.

He directed the officials to take steps to give remaining compensation to 38 Dalits immediately. Ramulu said he directed officials to conduct a comprehensive probe into the death of Yacob who died in a lorry accident when the agitation is going on in the village.

He also directed the government to take steps to give the job to one of the family members. For his suggestion, Collector K Bhaskar came forward to give job to a family member, he added.

He said that the police officials should be alert on the atrocities and act against attackers as per the law. He said since 2012 several cases have been pending in the courts relating to Dalits.

He suggested a special advocate appointment and directed two Telugu speaking states not to give station bail to the accused in SC/ST Atrocities cases. He reminded that the Supreme Court did never say that station bail should be given to accused in SC/ST atrocity cases.

He observed the morale of victims is coming down as the accused are roaming outside the police stations immediately after getting arrested. He reminded that no state in the county other than Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are giving station bail in SC/ST atrocity cases.

K Ramulu called upon the police department to follow social media to get information of any crime or incident so that they can respond swiftly.
