Rajamahendravaram: National SC/ST Commission member K Ramulu has said that the police department cannot sanction station bail in the cases registered under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act.

Reviewing the implementation of welfare schemes as well as progress of cases filed under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act, with the officials in roads and buildings guest house here on Monday, he said the respective police officers will be held responsible if they gives station bail in the cases.

He directed the district administration to take action against the persons who are digging sand at the assigned lands given to SCs. It is the duty of the officials to develop basic facilities in SC/ST colonies with the funds sanctioned under SC/ST sub-plan, he said. He said the government should provide necessary funds for Dalit unemployed candidates for under going training in various competitive examinations.

Collector Karthikeya Misra said that for the first time in the State, a skilled training centre was started for SC/ST women in the district and so far skill development training was imparted to 22,826 SC women and 1,363 ST women. So far loans to the tune of Rs 62 crore were sanctioned to 7,358 SC beneficiaries as against Rs 135 crore.

In the year 2017 as many as 44 cases and in the year 2018, nine cases were registered under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act and the cases were decreasing in the district. Urban SP B Raja Kumari, rural SP Vishal Gunni and other officials were present.
