The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) will be organising 12th All India Sanskrit Students’ Talent Festival (AISSTF) from January 31 to February 3 at its campus in Tirupati.

Tirupati: The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) will be organising 12th All India Sanskrit Students’ Talent Festival (AISSTF) from January 31 to February 3 at its campus in Tirupati. Having completed eleven such festivals so far, the Vidyapeetha wants to conduct its 12th edition prestigiously which was aimed to provide a national platform to all the talented students from various Sanskrit organisations and Sanskrit departments of general universities to showcase their talent in the fields of literature, dance, drama and other cultural activities.

Nearly 300 students from 28 Universities are expected to participate in the national festival. Speaking to the media here on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of RSVP Prof V Muralidhara Sharma said that the AISSTF will witness 13 academic and five cultural competitions.

The academic events include elocution on various topics like Veda, Sahitya, Jyotisha, Puranetihasa etc. In Sloka Antyakshari contest, students will have to recite a sloka which has to begin with the last letter of the previous sloka recited by the previous contestant and quiz competition which will have questions ranging from ancient texts to current day events.

The cultural competitions comprise of mono acting, one act play, Sanskrit song, Indian folk dance and others. On this occasion, the Sanskrit-Science exhibition will be conducted with the objective of enlightening the Sanskrit students and others of the hidden scientific heritage of Sanskrit language and ancient Indian culture by which visitors can know how science is developed from the help of Sanskrit texts.

Sri Venkateswara Vedic University, Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic College, SVU Oriental Research Institute, SV Music College and other institutions will participate in the contest. The V-C also said that the 21st convocation of RSVP will be held on February 5 in which the Chancellor and former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami will preside over and the Chairman of Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister Dr Bibek Debroy will deliver convocation address.

A total of 1,013 degrees will be presented to the students. Dr Ballapadau Madhava Upadhyaya, Sribhashyam Vijaya Sarathi and Dr Salaka Raghunatha Sharma will be awarded ‘Honoris Causa’ and D Literature to former DGP Dr K Aravinda Rao and Dr Marri Krishna Reddy. Prof Muralidhara Sharma also revealed that he has completed one year in office by January 15 and listed out his achievements during the year.

Notable among those was that they started Sanskrit Vikasa Kendra with an objective of enhancing the communication skills in Sanskrit, teaching all basics of Sastras for beginners and general public by taking special classes. In addition, Balakendra which aimed at teaching Sanskrit language, inculcating values and promoting Indian culture among the school kids. RSVP along with the TTD and SVBC will soon launch a programme of spoken Sanskrit classes in Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel.
