Tirupati: South Central Railway (SCR) authorities have decided to make some modifications to Tirupati Station’s redevelopment plan after having long discussion with officials of various agencies here on Wednesday.

The revised plan will be submitted for approval by the higher authorities immediately and expected to get the nod in February itself and the tender process will also be initiated in the same month.

Speaking to The Hans India after day long discussions with the officials of the Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) and National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC), who will take up the redevelopment as their joint venture, the DRM of Guntakal Division Vijay Prathap Singh made it clear that they were very serious in taking up the project forward in quick time.

RLDA and NBCC officials came from Delhi to participate in the deliberations. “Under the revised plan, eight platforms will come up in Tirupati station. The existing yard will be shifted to West railway station which will witness infrastructural development.

That station will be used for maintenance purposes by having washing lines, stabling lines, pit lines etc. so that more space will come for optimum use at Tirupati main station,” DRM explained. The idea is every train should halt for 10 minutes in Tirupati and then leave for West railway station. In Phase-I development, south side building works will be taken up along with some initial works at north side.

“There were leasing issues on the northern side which will be looked after by the Station Director K Satyanarayana, who will be the nodal officer for the entire project,” the DRM revealed. Vijay Prathap Singh also added that, they were looking for more land on the south side to have special parking zones for taxis, auto rickshaws, cars, and buses. “Parking becomes a major constraint for us.

There is a need to provide bus stop there so that pilgrims can board Tirumala bus soon after coming out of the railway station instead of going all the way to bus stand for catching a bus. These issues will be sorted out soon by having discussions with state government, civic and TTD officials,” he maintained.

West railway station will be entirely developed for maintenance purposes whereas Tiruchanur station will be developed as per the plan by providing passenger amenities. DRM also said that, he will try to open the railway pass counter for journalists in Tirupati in February itself.

Deputy Chief Operation Manager-Planning Raviprasad Pati, Yeshwanth Singh Ooda of RLDA, NBCC Deputy GM Rajaram, Chief Engineer of Railways Brahmananda Raju, Chief Commercial Manager Gunasekhar, Station Director K Satyanarayana and Station Manger M Subodh Mithra took part in the meeting. All the officials visited the area at south side of the station to have an idea about the plans.
