The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has given its nod to construct 6.5 lakh houses for urban poor across the state. Speaking to media at the Secretariat on Friday, urban development minister P Narayana said that this would cost around Rs 38,000 crore on the state. All these houses would be constructed by March 2019, he added.

Speaking to media at the Secretariat on Friday, urban development minister P Narayana said that this would cost around Rs 38,000 crore on the state. All these houses would be constructed by March 2019, he added.

The minister explained that out of the total budget required for construction of these houses, the Central government has been giving Rs 7,500 crore, roughly Rs 1 lakh per each house. The beneficiary contribution would be arranged through loans, he said and added the remaining part of the amount will be provided by the state government.

Narayana explained that the Cabinet approved for construction of 4.81 lakh multi-storied apartments out of the total approved 6.5 lakh houses and the remaining are individual houses.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the department to construct houses with all the internal, external and social infrastructure, explained the minister. Narayana further said that all these houses will be constructed with high-end quality for comfortable living of the beneficiaries.
