Vijayawada: The activists of the Congress party staged a protest at the party office at Andhra Ratna Bhavan here on Friday and burnt the effigies of the State and Central governments for non-allocation of funds for the State in the Union budget.

The Congress workers also celebrated the party’s victory in the by-elections in Rajasthan. Former MLA and Krishna district Congress in-charge Mastan Vali said the BJP and Telugu Desam governments were cheating the public.

He wondered as to how the TDP would get funds from the Centre after it had already announced the budget for the next fiscal. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was trying to protect his own interests, he said and asked him to withdraw from the alliance at the Centre. He said the people would teach a fitting lesson to both BJP and Telugu Desam in the next elections.

He stated that the public support was increasing to Congress as was evident in the Rajasthan elections. State Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmashree, party leaders Akula Srinivas, Meesala Rajeshwara Rao and several other leaders were present.
