Rajamahendravaram: Tribal welfare department principle secretary S S Rawat has said that as many as six Ekalavya tribal residential schools will come up in the state with the Centre allocating Rs 15 crore in the Union budget.

Speaking to reporters at municipal corporation office here on Friday, he said the government will establish the schools after identifying the places in the state shortly.

Rawat said the ST sub-plan funds would be spent after discussing with respective departments and as part of it, a meeting was conducted in Maredumilli with the project officers of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA).

Midday meal programme also be implemented in two weeks under Akshya Patra scheme in which as many as 60,000 tribal students will be benefitted, he added.

He said the government took a decision to conduct medical camps to tribal students residing in the hostels and added training was imparted to 30 tribal youth to trek Himalaya mountains.

He said the project officers of ITDA were directed to execute the schemes effectively and plans are afoot to increase literacy rate among tribals.
